Cast aside, Mi Amor
You have broken my ashtray heart
Now you, once cherished, I abhor
Our love, a broken shopping cart
Piled thick with memories soiled
The hurt, lies, the disgrace
Mine-blasted hours of treasure spoiled
When next you move to deface
I hope that you think more than twice
Of our spoiled vows rotted with lice

Smelling the burnt rubber of his own bad luck
Tito knew that Karla didn’t want him no more
That she had found a new sugar daddy to fuck
He was no longer the one she claimed to adore
Stretched taut, tied tight
To the underpass below Greenwich
There was nothing he could do, say to make this right
He waited to meet his replacement – the son of a bitch
Binding straps held arms, legs and head
Cicada ticking, a nightmare commentator
Ink shadow emerges, liquid dread
A last minute reprieve? An emancipator?
The knife revealed, blade and tooth exposed
Hail to the king, my heart and love deposed

She screams in tangled fury, wings beating against the bitter brush
Her gosling trapped in brickle-barred hold
Father honks from the lake, ‘Faster, Faster, we mustn’t lose another.’
They had already lost one to a stray dog, another to the cold capricious weather
She smashes the sawgrass, hefting her weight into Patterson Island
As her children (safe) sound fear trumpets from the bullrushes
‘Faster, Momma. Faster…’
Her youngling bleats in panic staccato as She bears down – smashing through the snares
Tearing her wings, her breast as only a Mother can
In endless declaration of love

Bleary eyed, I stumble awake
My heart, my soul a constant ache
Dreaming of the Apocalypse
A slow dawning amidships
Of reason, hellfire discretionary
Bargaining with my mental hypothecary
I dream, I scheme, my life probationary
All based upon the momentary
Hope of nocturnal postulating
My purpose participating
In this grande illusion sodden
With dreams and meaning untrodden
-
Wrapped in a time-worn eiderdown
The sofa still is broken down
My dog is happy fast asleep
He has no soul to worry or keep
If I was just and proven right
I too would sleep so through the night
My crimes unknown, fate denied
No one knows yet that I had lied
About the death of Stan Magrew
I’d shot him twice and then the stew
I made from him was sweet and tender
His flesh and bones with ease did render
So now my dog sleeps, belly fat
And I’m a free man, imagine that?

-
spider lattice worsted
rust tangled and torn
you are a rusted metal
padlock
bramble-bruised and
bent
twisted barrier fence
you are line after line
of steadfast stumbleworm
honeycomb
torn and trampled keeper
defining webbed
circle
gatekeeper of my heart
